Our Story
Hi, I’m Thao, and I’ve always had a thing for sweet treats.
Birthday cakes, celebration snacks, the occasional reward in the form of a treat.
As a matter of fact, my mum even hid the chocolate stash (how well it was hidden is another story, hihi).
Food became my love language and baking became my thing. I was the baker of the friend group who made all the birthday cakes.
As I got older though, desserts stopped loving me back:
sugar rushes, mid-afternoon slumps, labels with so many ingredients I couldn’t even pronounce.
I wanted something that felt good and tasted like a real treat.
One night after dinner, an apple felt too healthy, the granola bar on my shelf wasn’t hitting the spot, and I didn’t want a heavy pastry yet again. I raided the pantry, I found chickpeas, dates, cocoa, peanut butter, and baked an “emergency” brownie. That’s when the seed was planted.
During my Master’s in Entrepreneurship at Erasmus University in Rotterdam, I took an Entrepreneurial Lab course, and a friend convinced me to give this idea a shot.
So, we tested it with a small team. Alongside doing research and building theoretical models, we baked, hit the streets, handed out bites and listened.
People loved it. We won our cohort competition, and I thought, okay… this could be something.
That’s how kikki treats started in Amsterdam.
Selling the brownies at the market let me learn from you in real time, what you loved, what needed a tweak. Since then, we’ve worked hard to improve the recipe and make it shelf-ready.
I’ve been lucky to learn from brilliant people: bakers, food scientists, food entrepreneurs, advisors, patient taste testers, and people who encouraged me.
After what feels like a million test batches, plenty of late nights, and stacks of notes, our soft-baked brownie bite was born.
Our mission: Indulgence that cares.
We craft everyday treats that deliver dessert-level joy with real, thoughtfully chosen ingredients, so caring for yourself and the planet feels like a treat, not a trade-off.
Today’s kikki is fudgy, date-sweetened, plant-based and high in fibre. It’s made for cheeky breakfasts, 4 p.m. pick-me-ups, or an after-dinner treat.
